Respiratory Diseases Among Dust Exposed Workers

چکیده
Airborne contaminants occur in the gaseous form (gases and vapours) or as aerosols. Aerosols may exist in the form of airborne dusts, sprays, mists, smokes and fumes. In the occupational setting, all these forms may be important because they relate to a wide range of occupational diseases. Airborne dusts are of particular concern because they are well known to be associated with classical widespread occupational lung diseases such as the pneumoconiosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, occupational asthma, etc. Occupational exposure to dust particles occurs everywhere but is especially prevalent in lowand middle-income countries. Table 1 shows some examples of the types of dust found in the work environment.

impairments and respiratory symptoms have been mostly reported in epidemiological studies. The causal associations between cement dust exposure and pulmonary diseases have been studied by epidemiologic and animal studies. The influenced mechanisms of dust deposition are impaction, sedimentation, and diffusion through the respiratory system. Dust greater than 10 μm in aerodynamic diameter are ge...

Background: Although one of the most important occupational hazards in cement industry is the effect of cement dust exposure on respiratory system, there is controversy about the relationship between exposure to cement dust and respiratory symptoms and pulmonary function impairment. Our aim was to assess the effects of cement dust exposure on respiratory symptoms and lung capacities of cement w...
متن کاملPossible effects on occupational lung cancer from smoking related changes in the mucus content of the lung.
A number of recent epidemiological studies of lung cancer among occupations that expose workers to dusts or toxic aerosols have reported a larger prevalence of lung cancer among non-smoking than among smoking workers. One recent study using Beagle dogs has also reported significantly fewer respiratory tumors among animals exposed to radon, radon daughters, uranium dust and tobacco smoke than am...
